About
The mission of Triangle Hackers is to promote the unity of art, technology, and making in the Triangle area of North Carolina (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel-Hill and outlying areas.) To do so, our goal is primarily to obtain physical locations for interested people to meet, work on projects, collaborate on ideas, hold workshops, and educate themselves and the community through teaching, learning, and exchanging skills and ideas. These physical locations are often referred to as makerspaces, or hackerspaces. (See I don’t Consider Myself a Hacker: Will I fit in?)
Triangle Hackers was started in August of 2010 when a couple of transplants to the area (co-founders of Interlock Space in Rochester, NY) felt that it’d be great to have a hub for bringing together technologists and artists from all over the Triangle in the spirit of collaboration and innovation. This idea had been explored before by others in the area, and the environment was ripe for the movement. Support from all areas of the Triangle appeared in the form of excited people, eager to share their ideas and visions for a space in their area.
In just a short time, great things have happened because of people dedicated to obtaining a permanent, physical space for like-minded people to come together and collaborate on projects. Our first space is now open in Downtown Durham! We are in the early stages of rallying support, donations, and prospective members who are interested and passionate about being a part of a makerspace in their area.
Our physical locations will be member-driven and member & community-funded. The Durham Makerspace is a non-profit organization with 501c3 status pending.
Interested in getting involved? Join our mailing list, come to a meeting, or contact partners@trianglehackers.com if you are interested in ways that you or your organization can partner with or support our efforts.
Stay tuned for upcoming spaces in your area of the Triangle!
